Dear Westie
Rescue Supporters,
I hope
you and your Westies are doing well and
staying cool during this MidWest heat wave
we are having.
We have
several inquiries about when the Westie Walk
would be this year so I wanted to take this
opportunity to update all of you on some
important news regarding the Walk and
Central Ohio Westie Rescue.
As many
of you know, we have been doing Rescue since
2000 and our first Westie Walk was in 2001.
Since then the "Walk" has grown as word
about how much fun we all had meeting other
Westie owners and about the rescue work we
were doing. Because of your support, we
have saved many Westies from abuse, neglect
and worse. Many of you have fostered for us
and know how much work it can be, but you
also know how rewarding it is.
Because
of personal family issues, this past year I
have had to considerably scale back the
amount of rescue I could do. The good news
is that several other Westie Rescue groups
have formed a group called "Great Lakes
Westie Rescue" and have offered to help us
cover the Central Ohio area. So far we have
not had to ask for their help, but it is
such a relief to know that they are there to
help when if/we need them. In addition
to their offer to help with our rescue work,
we have also decided to help each other with
our fundraising efforts (Westie Walks).
Earlier this year Jean, Steve and I
had began to discuss whether we had the
ability to hold a Westie Walk this October.
As we looked at the help and resources
available to us, it was looking more and
more like we would be able to "support and
attend" a Westie Walk this year, but would
not hold our own WW.
After much
discussion with the other members of Great
Lakes Westie Rescue, it was decided that we
would rotate our Westie Walks between the
different groups. This would enable us to
have an occasional Walk but would greatly
reduce the amount of work for any one
group. It was decided that this year, one
of the groups in Indiana would hold a Westie
Walk and we would do what ever we could to
promote their event. We are hoping that
many of you will make the trip with us to
attend the "Westie Lake Walk" in Indiana. I
have attached the registration form and a
list of hotels in the area.
Jean,
Steve and I hope you will continue to
support Westie Rescue through the joint
effort of Great Lakes Westie Rescue. We
will continue to keep you posted as plans
for future Walks become available. In the
meantime we hope to see many of you at the "Westie
Lake Walk" on Saturday, September 17th.
The
Westie Lake Walk is in
Valparaiso,
Indiana on Saturday, 9/17/11 and the time is
9:00 to noon. The actual location of the
walk is Rogers Lakewood Park. The
Pre-Registration form is attached to this
e-mail and you must PRE-REGISTER by August
21, 2011 to receive a neck decoration.
