Sweet Pea A Cairn Rescue Story A cairn rescue story, or it
could read, “and they lived happily ever after.”
I got to know Carol and Sweet Pea through their daily walks in the neighbor hood. Carol stopped to admire Jessie, Molly, and Maggie one day, while Bev and I made over Sweet Pea. Sweet Pea seemed a little anxious. Carol told us she had recently rescued her and that Sweet Pea is blind.
Sweet
Pea was found at the side of a road near a horse stable.
Carol’s friend thought she was dead at first, but then saw her little
tail wagging. She was a mess. Her
eyes were crusted over, her fur was matted, and the vet said she had recently
had a litter of puppies. The vet is
almost sure she had escaped a puppy mill due to the fact her teeth are worn
down, (from chewing on a metal cage) and her overall poor health
condition. Carol kept up on Sweet
Pea’s recovery during her stable visits and fell in love.
Carol’s friend asked Carol to keep Sweet Pea during a short leave and
as they say “the rest is history.”
Sweet Pea now lives with Carol and her 3 cats, and is loved to pieces. Carol did some research to help Sweet Pea adjust to her new surroundings. One of the things is to put a scent (say vanilla) at the bottom of the stairs and a different scent (lavender) at the top. Sweet Pea understood and doesn’t miss a beat going up and down the stairs. She has her own special place on the couch and a chosen path through the house. Carol is careful not to rearrange things out of respect and love for Sweet Pea. Although Sweet Pea surely had a miserable start in life, Carol is making up for that now. Sweet Pea is loved and pampered, and she brings so much joy to Carol. One more thing, Carol is almost completely deaf. Sweet Pea now alerts Carol to sounds she would not be able to hear and Carol helps Sweet Pea with her blindness. I ‘d say, “It’s a match made in heaven” Jean
